back from the brink of extinction due to the dedication and
enthusiasm of lovers of this chicken breed.
Interesting facts about this stunning chicken breed:
- They are an ornamental breed - Pavlovskaya chickens are not known for laying an abundance of eggs. Their eggs are medium-sized and tinted, numbering less than 100 eggs per year. It is said that their meat is similar to that of wild game birds, but their bodies are not large enough to be worth it to process for meat.
- Tempermant - These birds have a very sweet disposition and are quite curious and friendly to their caregivers. They are a great choice for those would would like a unique, family-friendly breed.
- Believed to have created several other crested breeds - Polish, Brabanter, Apenzeller Barthuhner, and Apenzeller Spitzhauben.
- Incredibly cold hardy - This is one of the most cold-hardy breeds of chicken in existence today. They can easily survive outside in temperatures colder than -35 Fahrenheit.
- Unique feathering and combs - They have beautiful, grouse-like feathered feet to protect them from extreme temperatures, and small v-shaped combs nestled under their uniquely crested head feathers.
